Blue Roses

Scientific name: Rosa spp
Common name: Rose hybrids
Family: Rosaeceae
Photo taken at: Floria 2011

Blue roses do not exist naturally. Many of those sold at the florists are actually white roses dyed blue. I have read that this is the only colour that plant breeders have difficulty in getting. A blue rose is rare indeed. Since 2004, an Australian company Florigene and a Japanese company Suntory had successfully created the blue rose by genetic engineering after 13 years of collaboration. The blue rose symbolizes:
  • mystery and excitement
  • the impossible and unattainable
  • extraordinary and wonderful personality

For more pictures and information about blue roses, you can read my post, "Blue Roses at Floria 2011" dated 20 Sept 2011, the link is here.

  1. I haven't seen one but i think it is more beautiful with Vanda orchid than the rose. Maybe it is just preference!
