Kalanchoe blossfeldiana 'Calandiva' - Pink Colour

Scientific name: Kalanchoe blossfeldiana 'Calandiva'
Common name: Kalanchoe

Family: Crassulaceae
Origin: Hort.
Photos takan at: My home garden

Category: Cactus and succulents, tropical and tender perennial plant

Kalanchoes are called "wan zi qian hong" (  - million purple thousand red) which translates to mean 'an abundance of wealth and prosperity'. In Cantonese, 'zi' for purple colour also sounds like money (银纸 - ngan zhi). The pronunciation of "wan zi qian hong" also rhymes with "a million offsprings, a thousand fame and honour".

Today is ABC Wednesday, Round 8
K is for .....
Kalanchoe blossfeldiana!
Yes, I'm JUST in time for this meme,
This one's a Keeper! It's a Knock-out beauty.
I'm always Keen to buy one home whenever I see it.
I can't Keep my eyes off it and it can be the Key to my happiness
A great plant to Kick-start my indoor garden but this is no Kid's job
Too much watering will Kill off the plant.
This plant is not from the Planet Krypton but my home garden.

  8. I never knew the botanical name for fuchsia; or the meaning behind it. Very interesting. If having the blossoms brings wealth and prosperity, I'll plant a yard full of them!

  9. Lisa, I'm sorry if I have confused you. In this post, the word fuchsia is to mean the colour of the kalanchoe flowers. The botanical name for the fuchsia plants that you mentioned is 'fuchsia' also.
