Eugenia polyantha - Salam Leaf, Indonesian Bay Leaf



Scientific name: Eugenia polyantha
Synonym: Syzygium polyanthum

Common name: Indonesian bay leaf, daun salam (Malay)

Family: Myrtaceae
Origin: Southeast Asia
Native to: from Burma to Peninsular Malaysia, western Indonesia
 Category: Deciduous tropical tree

Features :
The tree can grow to about 18-27 m. The flowers are light pink and slightly fragrant. The fruits are like berries, turning from red to brown. The leaves are aromatic and dried bay leaves are unique to Malaysian and Indonesian cooking.
