This orchid is commonly found in Malaysia and Singapore where it grows naturally on trees in our tropical rainforests. The flowers are fragrant. You can find this orchid is used in landscaping for planting along roadsides and also grown in gardens as ornamental plants.

You can a this orchid at the University Putra Malaysia (UPM) where the orchid is growing on the trunk of a Raintree (Samanea saman) near the entrance of the main campus. You can also find it growing naturally at the Air Itam Dam and Penang Hill in Penang.

In some states of Malaysia, e.g. Perak and Pahang state, the Pigeon Orchid is associated with spiritual beliefs. The Malay community would plant the orchid in front of their homes, usually near to the entrance door, as a talisman for protection. It is believed that the plant is able to ward off evil forces from entering the house. (Source: Wikipedia)
